Warning: The Dangers of Selling or Buying Fake Degrees from Private Universities

The rise of fake degree rackets in India has caught the attention of authorities, leading to serious legal actions against those involved. If you are involved in selling or purchasing illegal degrees from private universities, be warned—the moment an investigation opens, universities will shift the blame onto students and degree agents, leaving you to face the consequences alone.

UGC Panel to Probe Fake Degree Racket

The Union Human Resources Development Ministry took serious note of a TV news report exposing a nationwide fake degree racket. The report alleged that recognized university degrees were being sold without students ever attending classes or appearing for exams.

In response, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has set up a five-member probe committee, headed by Delhi Technological University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh. This committee is tasked with:

✅ Identifying universities and individuals involved in the scam
✅ Recommending strict deterrent measures
✅ Investigating university officials complicit in the fraud

Himalayan University Denies Involvement

Following the allegations, Himalayan University, a private university established in 2013, has denied any wrongdoing. The university’s Registrar, Vivel Mittal, clarified in a circular that they have filed a police complaint against an individual named Chamn, who was allegedly selling fake mark sheets under their name.

However, when questioned, police sources revealed that an investigation has been launched into the racket, indicating the gravity of the issue.

The Consequences of Fake Degrees

If you are caught buying or selling fake degrees, here’s what you can expect:

1. Criminal Charges & Imprisonment

Under Sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 468 (fraud), and 471 (using forged documents) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), offenders can face:
Up to 10 years in jail
Hefty fines
A permanent criminal record

2. Universities Will Disown You

Once an investigation opens, universities will deny responsibility and shift all blame onto students and middlemen. You will be left to defend yourself in court while the real culprits escape.

3. Career & Reputation Damage

Using a fake degree can lead to:
🚫 Immediate termination if discovered by your employer
🚫 Blacklisting from future jobs, especially in government and multinational companies
🚫 Legal scrutiny if your degree is ever verified by authorities

4. Wasted Time & Money

Many individuals pay lakhs of rupees for fake degrees, only to lose their jobs when caught. Instead of advancing your career, you will end up facing legal battles and financial ruin.

Final Warning: Don’t Risk It

Selling or buying fake degrees is a serious criminal offense that can ruin lives. If you are considering it, STOP NOW. Employers, universities, and government agencies are tightening verification processes, making it easier than ever to detect fraud.

If you are approached by a fake degree seller, report them to authorities instead of becoming their next victim. Education should be earned, not bought.
