Singhania University, located in Pacheri Bari, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, is once again under serious regulatory and legal scrutiny. Through a series of Right to Information (RTI) replies and official communications from UGC, NCTE, and DEB, several alarming facts have surfaced. This blog consolidates verified findings and public notices to warn prospective students and employers.
Background: UGC Status and Limitations
As per UGC’s RTI reply (F.No.1-198/2025), Singhania University is recognized only as a State Private Universityestablished under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. However, UGC has not approved any specific courses or programs of the university, especially for distance learning or online education.
📌 UGC Clarifies:
-
State Private Universities cannot offer programs outside their territorial jurisdiction.
-
They are not authorized to open study centers or franchise their programs.
-
Any course in distance/online mode requires explicit UGC-DEB approval, which Singhania University lacks.
DEB-UGC: No Recognition for Distance/Online Mode
An official letter from Distance Education Bureau (DEB-UGC) dated April 2025 confirms:
“Singhania University has never been recognized by erstwhile DEC, IGNOU, or DEB-UGC to offer any programme through distance education mode/online mode.”
This invalidates all degrees/diplomas/certificates issued by Singhania University in distance or online learning formats.

NCTE Disapproval for Teacher Education Programs
A separate RTI reply from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), dated 24 April 2025, makes it official:
“Singhania University, Jhunjhunu, is not recognized by the NCTE.”
Implication: Any B.Ed., M.Ed., or teacher training qualification issued by Singhania University is invalid for teaching positions in government or private institutions.
Investigation Initiated by UGC Against the University
A show cause letter dated 30 April 2025 was sent by the DEB-UGC to the Registrar of Singhania University. The university has been asked to explain under which provisions they admitted students to distance/online programs without approval.
“Admission shall not be made in anticipation of the recognition.” – UGC ODL/Online Regulations, 2020
This indicates that punitive action may follow if satisfactory justification is not provided.
Singhania University’s Own Admission
