The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), which runs all-India counselling for medical seats, has warned NEET UG 2026 candidates that a notice circulating on social media about lower qualifying percentiles is fake, according to reports by Medical Dialogues and Shiksha.

Medical Dialogues reported that the forged notice, dated 12 October 2026 and made to look like an MCC document, claimed that eligibility for counselling had been lowered to the 15th percentile for General and EWS candidates and the 10th percentile for SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates. It falsely attributed the change to the Union Health Ministry in consultation with the National Medical Commission.

MCC's response

In an advisory dated 13 October, MCC said no such decision had been taken by the competent authority and described the notice as fake, Medical Dialogues reported. The committee also stated that it does not operate any website other than www.mcc.nic.in.

Candidates were advised to rely only on information published on the official MCC website, to stay alert to fake websites and agents, and to report any fraudulent site or agent to MCC.

Why fake notices are a risk

Forged circulars about cut-offs, seat allotments or fees can push students into hasty decisions, such as paying agents who promise seats or abandoning genuine options. Fake documents bearing the names of regulators also feed wider admission frauds, including bogus allotment letters.

How to check a counselling notice

Any change to eligibility or counselling rules should appear on mcc.nic.in and, where relevant, on the websites of the Health Ministry or the National Medical Commission. Students should open the official site directly rather than following links shared on messaging apps, compare the notice's reference number and date with the site's list of notices, and never pay anyone who claims to guarantee a seat.
